Rooted Futures

Haudenosaunee Learning Center Seneca, USA Teamwork: Akua Appiah-Adu + Jaden Godfrey Instructor: Anna Dietzsch + Sean Anderson

This project named Rooted Futures’ reflects a connection to the land, its stewardship, and the vision of cultivating a thriving legacy for future generations.

The design of the learning center is guided by principles of sustainability, reciprocity, and care for the environment, honoring traditions while creating opportunities for growth and knowledge sharing.

This vision has been deeply inspired by the Gayogohónoʼ community and its enduring relationship with the land.

One source of inspiration came from an image of a young boy from the Gayogohónoʼ community who climbed a tree and intentionally wedged himself between two trees.

This act, positioning himself within the space created by two distinct elements, represents balance, connection, and coexistence.
